PETA-likes Protest Paris and Brit

Dressed as pop dog carriers Paris Hilton and Britney Spears, PETA protesters took to the streets of Hollywood today to cast light on the problems caused by buying pets through a breeder. But really, when you dispatch people dressed up as those two, no one really cares what your cause is!

According to PETA, for every dog or cat purchased from a breeder or pet store, another dog or cat on death row at an animal shelter must be killed. At the rate Paris and Britney are going, there won't be any pets left for the rest of us! Arf, y'all!

"Forget jail or rehab," PETA Director Daphna Nachminovitch says. "These selfish stars should do a stint in an animal shelter." Hopefully, they've already had all their shots.

152. Dear BETH, HALEY, AND THE REST OF YOU LOONEY PETA"ITES" - Don't you guys have anything better to do than sit online and spew your PETA garbage agenda? Do you realize that the more moronic cr@p you spit out on this site, the more you are undermining your effort to "educate the masses" b/c you are making yourselves look like brainwashed, little PETA followers? Come on now, please just get back to doing the work you kooks are best at...such as drinking your animal-free, vegan Kool-Aid, doning stupid celebrity masks, and pounding the pavement in big cities to get your radical message across and try to harrass people into submission!

153. People should be able to get their pats from anywhere they can afford to get them I happen to be a pet lover and own 2 dogs. I also foster dogs until a good home is found for them. I would like people to get dogs out of a shelter, but if they do not want to, then that is their business and no one elses. What would happen to the pets at the pet store if no one ever bought them, they would probably end up in the pound ready for adoption.

154. In response to # 134

If you go on PetFinder.com you can find many small and purebred dogs. I got my dogs from breed rescue organizations. They are the most loving dogs EVER!! Don't support pet stores because they are all about greed.

PetFinder.com ROCKS!!!

155. #139 - Haley
Talk about misguided. Thousands of people consider Peta Phsychos. They would also consider Petas Euthanisation not a kindness but a cruelty - thus perverted by your own ideology. As for Peta's stance that animals have the same rights as people, well then by your own tongue aren't you saying we should euthanize homeless people. As you stated"Breathing isn't necessarily life".

Peta makes it's position Clear" Total Animal Liberation"

PETA president and co-founder Ingrid Newkirk has described her group’s overall goal as “total animal liberation.” This means no meat, no milk, no zoos, no circuses, no wool, no leather, no hunting, no fishing, and no pets (not even seeing-eye dogs). PETA is also against all medical research that requires the use of animals.

If that is the case why do they Euthanize any animal? Just set it free in the streets to roam around and do what nature intended. And While your at it Why don't you fly to New Delhi India. Where Holy Cows walk the streets freely(Along with Stray dogs, cats, and a multitude of animals) . Its great! With all do respect to there beliefs and religion , the cows would have a better life on a farm, with grazing land, with water and regular meals. Instead of roaming city streets, dodging cars, drinking gutter water and scrounging for food. Most of them are suffering from malnutrition. So lets liberate all animals. That would be better. And why would you hold the animals that have been born accountable for the sins of the people who bred them? Go after the breeders! You're Humaine euthanization is just a nice word for murder!

Yes we definatly need to become a spay and neuter nation. And if Peta put together free spaying and neutering programs for everyone. People who could afford to would be thrilled to sponser or donate money. But not for cheap tacky publicity stunts, Where the money is not used for the animals but to pay for the Lawyers to defend Peta's zealots who destroy other peoples properties.

Go after the industry. The actual Criminals are everywhere, they even advertise.
Until Peta stops cruelly destroying animals ( Or are the martyrs to the cause?) Collateral damage? They will not have my support or any of my friends or families. We will all continue to save shelter pets and will support any decent animal rights groups who actually help.

156. If nobody bought these fancy dogs then nobody would profit from breeding them, that is the bad example set by celebs. Mutts are statistically healthier and better tempered than purebreds because inbreeding is bad genetics, duh! We have only gotten dogs from the pound so I just know bred dogs by acquaintence, but based on my experiences I would never buy one. 17 million healthy dogs are put to sleep each year because "people buy dogs all the time" that doesn't make it right. Also the ASPCA would NEVER place a bad-tempered or "damaged" dog, they are not offered for adoption. ever.
Fashion is for clothing not living creatures.

157. Amy Lynn:

I have to agreet with you...I've been checking out adoption for over a year. Reading the process to get these unwanted pets is too much. Some places are asking for information about my employer and their phone number. I've seen some of the same puts online for over 6 months. There process does keep people from adopting.

158. 147. Hey noted, they do go after the people who abuse and kill animals. They do all of that. You just don't hear about it in the mainstream media unless a celeb is involved or they do something outlandish enough to get your attention. These groups all have people who work in the field day in and day out with actual abuse cases, but that's not the only issue they care about. And the fact is, if there wasn't such an overpopulation problem there wouldn't BE so many abuse cases in the first place. Quite unfortunately unwanted dogs and cats and strays are the most frequent victims of violent crimes against animals.

Haley, again I'm all for the rights of animals, Peta actually is a good cause, yet, hipocritical, do you think abusing humans in the name of animal rights will solve the problem? it's just onther wrong that won't make it right. Pam Anderson, known PETA advocate abuses and mutilates her own body with reconstructive surgery yet is against abusing animals, come on, give us a break, it's not making PETA look credible or even serious, most of us are aware of the abuses, if you get attention by tageting high profile celebs, I'm sure you would get noticed targeting the true abusers/killers high profile or not, try and convince me otherwise, I love animals but believe Humans first

162. Peta generates a lot of negative press, as part of their marketing strategy. Generating positive OR negative press keeps an issue being talked about such as in this forum.

Peta also generates negative press because they work against big corporations that have well-funded government lobbyists. Companies such as Tyson, Coca-cola, and the large conglomerate pharmaceutical companies, see Peta as a painful thorn in their side. Peta has been the target of arduous audits by the IRS, investigations by the FBI, had their records and memberships subpoenaed, etc.

Let me also state, that Peta or any other animal rights protester has never physically harmed ANY person. Yet, thanks to big company lobbyists, a recent bill passed now says that animal rights protesters can be tried and sentenced as terrorists.

Peta has been an active organization for years and years. Ingrid became involved with animal issues by accident. She brought some young abandoned kittens to a shelter, and was horrified to find out that they had been immediately euthanized. She found that the people who worked at the shelter were cruel. Kicking and abusing the animals as they were being put down was a normal thing. She felt hopeless at the situation. She began euthanizing the animals herself as a means to provide them a gentler death. Since then, she has devoted her life (with minimal pay) to improving the conditions for all animals.

The scandal that people like Berman and others bring up, is that Peta euthanizes more animals than for whom they find homes. These statistics are skewed. Peta is often called in to help when there are situations that involve 'animal hoarders'. This often means that there are 100's of unhealthy cats living in one house, or even thousands of sick dogs in cages at an illegal breeding farm. Peta often does what is best for the animal and puts the dieing animal out of its misery.

What percentage of long term politicians have held office without having been attacked by their opposition for various actions? Very few. Peta has done amazingly well in 'keeping its nose clean' considering the fact that there are so many people 'gunning' for them.

Peta is not an animal shelter. They try to help individual animals where they can simply because they love animals. But Peta's function as a group is dedicated to improving the lives of all animals. Most of us are too busy with our own lives to think about animal issues, let alone try to educate people, and change laws that require factory farms to treat animals with compassion.

The people who work for Peta love animals and work tirelessly to get animal issues into the media spotlight so that people like you and me can make a difference too.

Nobody is perfect. I have heard people criticize Habitat for Humanity, Amnesty International, and even the Red Cross. Yet the work that they do to help others is incredible.

Do any of you that are criticizing Peta know about 'gestation crates'? Well, I do .. because Peta's web sites show pictures of these crates. This is just one example of an area where Peta has educated the public and shown us things that the factory farming industry would never want us to see.

I don't work for Peta. But I have been a Peta member since I was 20 years old. I have been a vegetarian/vegan for 19 years now. I credit Peta for reaching me as a young person, and allowing me to see the inside of a factory farm, a puppy mill, or a circus, and think about how my purchases and eating habits affect the environment, and the animals. Thanks Peta employees and volunteers! Thanks Ingrid!

163. WHO DOES PETA THINK THEY ARE.........THEY SHOULD BE HAPPY THAT DOGS AND CATS ARE BEING BOUGHT AT ALL WETHER FROM A BREEDER OR NOT......SHAME ON THOSE GIRLS !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Posted at 10:46AM on Aug 7th 2007 by Virginia

164. I agree - PETA sucks. Zealots on any level suck!

I have one dog from a breeder, and 2 cats from a shelter, and 1 cat who just wandered into our lives. We also have one guinea pig (store bought) and 1 guinea pig from a guinea pig rescue (yes - they exist!)

I agree - it's a nice thing to rescue animals. But with 3 small children - we could not take a chance on a shelter dog with behavioral issues.

I think Britney and Paris are morons - but - do we really need this kind of story to prove that fact??? ;)

Why can't people just live good lives without getting into others face and telling them how to live theirs?

Posted at 12:34PM on Aug 7th 2007 by Michelle

165. I love Paris & Brit, but I love animals even more. Yes, this demonstration is bit ridicuous, but THAT IS THE POINT. Shelters are full of unwanted, lovable, perfect dogs that need a home, and many petstores get their animals from puppy mills. Do a little research before you start bashing PETA-- they're pretty smart to do this. All of ya'll are freaking out about it; they got your attention & the medias by doing this! If they had merely done a leafletting or a norml run-of-the-mill demonstration, you probably wouldn' t have seen or even heard about it. They made a splash and did what they intended to do-- and now they're hoping that a few intelligent and caring people will look past the antics and see the real message, do their own research, and hopefully consider adopting, not buying, animals in the future.
